Most of our libraries are offering summer reading programs for children, teens and adults using the theme "Catch the Reading Bug." Contact your local library for specific information on how you and your family can participate. |
The reading bug is on its way to catch you this summer at libraries throughout Monroe County. Free programs for all ages will be offered through July and August and many of them are listed here by library. The programs listed here will be updated as the summer goes on, but this is not a complete list. Contact your local library for a complete list of programs being offered in your neighborhood.- July 9, 2:30 pm - Kids Crafts - Every Wednesday from July 9-August 13. No registration required.
- July 10, 2:30 pm - Wii Party - Play Wii Sports or Mario Party. For ages 10-16. No registration is required.

- July 10, 2:30 pm - Catch the Reading Bug with Bruce Weaver & Friends - Ventriloquist Bruce Weaver and his zany team of entomologists explore the wonderful world of bugs. For all ages. Program is located in the Kate Gleason Auditorium.

| When school's out, kids around the country visit selected Regal theatres for the Free Family Film Festival. It's a fun-filled nine weeks of movies for kids and parents. Since 1991, Regal has provided this service to the community, and best of all it's FREE! | |
| Selected G & PG movies start at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. The Free Family Film Festival is safe, lots of fun and a great way for kids to spend a weekday morning in the summer. |

Registration for the first session of the City’s FREE “Summer Swim Academy” continues through Thurs, July 3. The classes teach youth ages 6-18 and will be offered 9:30 a.m. - 12 noon, Mon.--Thurs., July 7--24 at ten locations throughout the city.
Participants must register in-person at any one of the following swimming locations for remaining openings:
Summer Swim Academy locations offering Levels* 1 through 5:

EAST HIGH POOL OPENING DELAYED UNTIL JULY 7

The opening of East High School’s pool, 1801 East Main St., originally scheduled for today, has been delayed until Mon., July 7 due to a minor mechanical problem.
City Recreation pool staff will be available in the East High lobby during regular pool hours, M-TH, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., to provide information and register youth for swim lessons. Visitors will be directed to other City-staffed pools for the week.
These locations include:
• Benjamin Franklin High School, 950 Norton St.
• Dr. Freddie Thomas High School, 250 Scio St.
• Thomas Jefferson High School, 1 Edgerton Park
• Wilson Foundation Academy at Madison, 200 Genesee St. (McCree Way entrance)
